Celebrating 98 Years of Active Community Gardening
In 1926 the Newmarket Garden Club (NGC) was founded with the purpose of promoting horticulture-the joy of plants and gardening for the benefit of its members and the public.
Our logo is the Monarda (Scarlet Beebalm). The Monarda attracts bees, and because of this association with the slogan of The Town of Newmarket, which is “Hive of Activity”, the Monarda was chosen as our official logo.
Our membership includes both novice and expert gardeners whose social activities include seed and plant exchanges, annual plant sales, maintenance of public gardens, communication through newsletters and associations with other horticultural societies throughout Ontario. The NGC is a proud member of District 5 of the Ontario Horticultural Association and participates in many intersociety functions. The NGC normally holds general meetings for members and the public at the Newmarket Community Centre. We publish a bimonthly newsletter entitled Monarda for our members.
We hold an annual plant sale fund raising event each spring with plants mainly supplied from our members’ gardens. This is always a popular event with the public and sells out quite quickly. Check out the plant sale info on our Plant Sale page. To review some of our scheduled events, see our Events in the menu bar.
Join the Newmarket Garden Club and enjoy the many membership benefits we offer. See our membership page for more information about these benefits and how to join our growing society.
